FACTS on food insecurity in San Diego

Of San Diego County's 3.2 million residents,* 795,000 are estimated to be nutrition insecure. That's 1 in 4 (24%) San Diegans. Of this number, 204,000 are children, 163,000 are older adults (age 60+), and 135,000 of those facing nutrition insecurity are living with disabilities.
Understanding the correlation between food insecurity and obesity is pivotal in our fight against these two societal issues. Often, lack of access to nutritious food can drive individuals to consume cheaper, unhealthy options, resulting in a paradoxical situation where hunger leads to obesity.

REACH: "redistributing essential aide combatting hunger"

Reach Redistributing Essential Aid, Combatting Hunger.

The Reach Food Rescue & Redistribution  Program is dedicated to combatting hunger and food insecurity by redistributing essential aid to underserved communities, Our doors are also  open to those who get doors shut on them often by others. Some  common scenarios being where an in between youth and senior aged adult is told you are too old to qualify for youth benefits, or too young to receive senior benefits. Or a single mom or an individual is turned down simply because she is White and told  he or she is  not dark enough to be categorized as a minority! we look at need, NOT  the Color of your skin or the type of people you date and or marry.

We focus on rescuing surplus food and ensuring it reaches those in need, promoting sustainability and alleviating hunger across our region.
